Ex-Temple Basketball Player Hysier Miller Bet On His Team To Lose

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Former Temple guard Hysier Miller put dozens of bets on Owls games, including some versus his team, the NCAA revealed Friday.


The NCAA considered Miller permanently ineligible after finding he placed 42 parlay bets totaling $473 on Temple games throughout the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Three of those bets were versus his group, the NCAA stated.


Miller started every game for the Owls throughout those seasons. The NCAA discovered he used sportsbook accounts coming from other individuals to wager.


The NCAA ´ s enforcement staff interviewed Miller on Oct. 10, 2024, and he admitted to placing parlay bets on Temple video games however did not remember putting any bets versus his group, the NCAA said.


His legal representative, Jason P. Bologna, stated the NCAA did a "long and thorough examination" and discovered no evidence that Miller shaved points. "Hysier offered them complete access to his cell phone and bank account, and he addressed every concern they asked him. He admitted to placing parlay bets, however he denied shaving points in any game, and the NCAA ´ s findings confirm that they accept Hysier was honest and cooperative with their examination," Bologna said in a statement.


Additionally, former Temple special assistant coach Camren Wynter and former graduate assistant Jaylen Bond were discovered to have violated NCAA guidelines by wagering on expert and college sports. The NCAA did not find any bets involving Temple by either Wynter or Bond. Both coaches received 1 year, show-cause orders and a suspension of 10% of regular-season contests during their first year of .

The NCAA did not find the three cases to be linked.


It's the most recent gambling offense revealed by the NCAA, which withdrawed the eligibility of 6 males ´ s college basketball players earlier this month as a result of 3 different sports-betting cases that included a power-conference school in Arizona State and claims of players tossing games to lose by more points than the spread.

Recently released findings of a new study found that 36% of Division I guys's basketball gamers reported experiencing social media abuse associated to sports betting within the in 2015. There were 29% who reported interaction with a fellow trainee on school who had put a bet on their groups.


Both of those figures were greater than reported by players in the Football Bowl Subdivision, with 16% reporting unfavorable or threatening messages, and 26% communicating with another trainee who had wagered on their team.
